The Research Society for Victorian periodicals is a small and collegial organization dedicated to the exploration, teaching, and scholarly use of newspapers, journals, and other periodicals published during the "long" nineteenth-century (1790-1910), and especially those from the Victorian era (1838-1901). Members of the Society engage in work that helps to make Victorian periodicals easier to use, more accessible for students, and better understood in social, artistic, and political contexts.

RSVP supports graduate-student research with the annual Van Arsdel Prize, and we encourage new members to suggest projects that can help make periodicals, that "great nineteenth-century wasteland," better known and more accessible.

Membership includes subscription to the journal that the Society edits and manages, Victorian Periodicals Review (VPR), and our annual conference is a delightful opportunity to connect with the best minds in the field.

VPR contains articles on the press and reviews of relevant books, compiling information on the history and practices of the Victorian periodical press.

Occasional special topics issues have been devoted to the 19th-century Press in India, Women Editors, Victorian Art and the Press, and Theory and the Press.

Focusing on Great Britain and Ireland, the Society and its journal are also interested in studies of the nineteenth-century press from other English-speaking countries, and in articles examining periodicals in allied historical eras from the late eighteenth century through the early twentieth century. VPR publishes an annual bibliography, as well.
